LEGION POST QUERY

From the Issue:
December 2011
Just a quick note concerning the American Legion Post.  I have noticed that it is referred to as #56 but without its original name, which is BOUFFORD.
I imagine that many, if not most, residents of Troy know his name.  I hope that Betty (DesRochers) Hebert, a native of Troy, doesn't mind if I use her name but she is a niece of Mr. Boufford.  Maybe she can share more about him, such as his full name, the details about his Army career, the date of his unfortunately death, etc.

I knew his mother who lived next to my grand parents (Charles and Delia Rocheleau) on Dort Street in Troy.  She was living with her daughters, Mary and Lena, wife of Charlie Rocheleau's brother, Ernest.  But she spoke only French and she communicated with me only with smiles as I was/am unable to understand French. A typical American!!

In the meantime, I will try to contact Betty. I believe that her son is a police officer in Troy.

Editor’s Note: Thought it was interesting to get Emile’s note shortly after the one received from Charlie with the complete name included … Any info re: Mr., Boufford would be appreciated .. Why was the Post named for him?
