Recycling Center

The Transfer Station/Recycling Center will be closed on Friday, November 11, 2011 in observance of Veterans Day.  On Saturday, Christmas Eve, December 24th, the Transfer Station/Recycling Center will be open from 8 AM to 1 PM.   For the New Year’s weekend, it will be open for the regularly scheduled hours.

Troy residents clearly appreciate the Recycling Center.  There is no question about how busy your crew is.  Help the efficiency of the Center by taking a moment to separate colored material - advertising flyers- from newspapers.  Clean newsprint is a source of income supporting the Center, but it is rejected if mixed with colored paper stock.  Make two piles - newspaper in one and colored stock in the separate heap.
    It's waste disposal at the recycling center, right?  But Messy Waste can't be recycled.  Double check that everyone in the household knows that cans and bottles must be rinsed clear of food and beverage residue.  Warm weather is ready to come and food and beverage residues can raise a stink. We don't need sterile results, just rinsed clean of residue. And dispose of caps and lids separately please. Jars and bottles submitted for recycle should be free of lids and covers.

The Hazardous Waste Collection Center is located off of Route 12 at 55 Old Summit Read just 4.5 miles north of West Street in Keene.  Stop at the entrance gate for directions to the Hazwaste Center.  The facility will be open from 8 AM until 1 PM on the May dates posted above.

Your green transfer station permit has expired!  Get a new one at the Town Clerk's Office in Town Hall or at the Transfer Station itself.  The new ones are a bargain at a cost of only $2 covering 2 years, 2011 and 2012, of privileges at our useful facility on Quarry Road.   The new stickers are bright red. — no question whether you are covered when you display your sticker.

Note that if a family uses two vehicles for trips to the Transfer Station the sticker may be affixed to a sturdy card to be moved between vehicles and displayed on the dashboard.

    The Troy Recycling Center will be closed on the Saturday holidays, Christmas and New Years Day.  Make-Up hours will be available on the preceding Fridays.  On December 24 and December 31, the Recycling Center is scheduled to be open 8 AM—5 PM.

    Make a special note of the need to make sure that jars, jugs and bottles are empty and thoroughly rinsed before submitting them for recycling.  It takes only a little to make a mess!  Thanks for your continuing attention.

We depend on you for the first cut in separating waste categories at the Troy center.  Please remind everyone in the family to help in keeping waste types apart.  For example, keep newspaper out of mixed paper.  Or to put it the other way, keep the flyers and colored stock out of the newspaper.  Remove caps from bottles and jugs before delivering them to the center.  Be reminded that warm weather is finally in sight — be sure jugs and bottles are rinsed.  To put it mildly, discards that aren’t rinsed can raise a stink!  Our staff does not enjoy it.
    When your good old microwave gives up; when the TV goes blank, when you decide to part with that computer or radio, these items must be weighed in by Recycling center staff.  Troy must pay to dispose of these items so we charge 15 cents per pound to cover our special disposal costs.  Speak up when you have electronic items to be disposed of.  These items are not to be placed in the “free” building or on the metal pile.  We have a special red shed to take proper care of these disposal items as required by law.
